Fertile Voids & The Water Element

In Chinese Medicine, the Water Element rules the Winter, the color Black, the Bones, and amongst other things, our organs systems coveting our most precious fluid resources. On the 5-Element wheel, Water’s position on the lower left side symbolizes how nature’s Cosmic Qi moves down & in before ascending with the Wood Element come Spring.

Being the lowest point on the entropy cycle, it signifies a necessary descent into darkness as a means of rebirth. Afterall…

All things first grow in the dark.

Plants, beings, dreams, ideas…

The light allows them to bloom, but their conception,

their germination occurs deep within the fertile voids of…

Soil, where water’s potency is evident even at its stillest

frozen sap lies like amber in roots underground thawing

as the wheel turns with time’s tide…

Dens, where animals allow instinct to lull them into preserved petrification,

like amber, their vitality is buried until the Earth softens…

Oceanic abysses and ancient lakes

where primordial creatures still dwell…

where lore is borne of the siren’s lure and krakens wrath

The subconscious, where the seeds of creations and stark realizations lurk

where ghosts of dreams, people, or

forgotten things yearn to be seen…

The womb, where life grows sequestered in the nectar of an amniotic bath

until its Yin is consumed, giving birth to Yang

which ushers it into the world…

The chambers of our bodies, where Ancestral Qi lies, kept by the Kidneys, carried by Bladder’s channel

reserves to be summoned when we lose our way but with warning

to expend wisely unless prepared to endure depletion and dismay…

Just as water carves the land with tenacity over time giving birth to its landscape, it does this yielding to the path of least resistance.

It always finds a way.

That is Water’s Wisdom.

To trust the ever-changing pace of life.

To trust when to flow, to let time carry you to the other side…

To trust when to percolate, to withdraw…

To trust when it’s time to surge, to exert your will with force…

To trust the void and what you nurture in this space.

All that’s to come is on its way because of it, not in spite.

Like Water, you will find your way too.
